About the Position

The Assistant Plant Manager is expected to meet the qualifications as outlined below. This full-time position is vital to the overall success of our organization as a manufacturer of animal health and nutrition products and services.

The responsibilities of this position are to support daily warehouse operations;  prepare, process, load, and organize warehouse for product distribution and receiving in an accurate and timely manner that will achieve the level of quality required of Nelson Tubs, LLC.

Reports to:  Plant Manager


Scheduling Requirements:  Tuesday – Saturday


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in daily planning, organizing, direct, and run day-to-day operations to optimize use of resources.

  • Lead and direct production and operational activities based on assigned shifts or in the absence of the Plant Manager.

  • Detailed oriented with ability to organize projects through to completion

  • Strong sense of integrity and commitment to exceptional customer service and quality

  • Assist in organization and monitoring of ingredients and finished inventory

  • Responsible for assisting and guiding the team in production and operational efficiencies.

  • Responsible for expected production output, product demand, product quality and on-time delivery to meet customer expectations.

  • Responsible for regulatory compliance including but not limited to FDA, OSHA, EPA and various state and local agencies along with overseeing quality control of all products.

  • Communicate with the Plant Manager and management staff all pertinent information that will assist in the overall operation of the company.

  • Assist in production and operational strategies and implement key initiatives with a clear sense of direction and focus.

  • Assist in recruiting, managing and development of production and warehouse staff

  • Assist in the development of safety protocols and support a safe work environment.

  • Provide leadership and training to accomplish company goals and objectives.

  • Assist in the Management of special projects related to production including plant improvements and additions.

  • Follow and maintain all maintenance and service processing of equipment

  • Ensure daily maintenance and housekeeping of warehouses, receiving, processing areas and general property for product quality and employee safety

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace for all production and warehouse personnel

  • Working understanding of industry regulations, production protocols and quality expectations.

  • Additional projects required or directed by the Plant Manager

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant work experience in manufacturing plant maintenance and mechanical skills

  • Relevant experience or capacity to be developed to manage or lead teams

  • Boiler license designation (preferred)

  • Forklift experience – standup and traditional (preferred) – will train

  • Ability to operate a skid loader during winter months

  • Effectively communicate with staff and 3rd party groups, as needed

  • Ability to follow directions and communicate the same information

  • Experienced in various manufacturing operations and functions

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or other order processing systems

  • Display self-motivation & time management skills to meet deadlines for specific projects

  • Ability to travel as needed on a limited basis

  • Required to work in Dassel, MN

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, squat, and reach above your head

  • Ability to lift 50-70 lbs.

  • Required to exert force to lift, push, pull or carry objects of various sizes

  • Ability to hear sounds that vary in pitch and volume

  • Ability to drive a forklift/pallet jack/manufacturing equipment and understand safety directions and operating instructionsAbility to perform simple mathematical equations

  • Computer and typing abilities required for documentation

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbal and written communication

  • Detailed oriented with ability to organize projects through completion

  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet scheduling deadlines
