Consistent Nutrient Delivery

Summertime brings long days with longer list of projects and chores to complete. Using a Nelson Tubs mineral product can free up your time and provide much needed mineral and vitamins to your livestock.
It is all about the Intake!
Good grass provides most of the energy and protein needs, so mineral delivery is the main supplement goal. Tubs are wind and rain proof with consistent and convenient nutrition delivery for your livestock. The rain will not soften the tub. Cattle will drink the water and go back to licking. Mineral type tubs have 4 to 8 ounces intake per head per day depending on the formula. In addition to mineral delivery, tubs can be used to pull cattle to desired parts of the pasture for more even grazing distribution. Feeding tips are shown in the table below.
Situation | Solution | Comments |
Intake is higher than desired | Decrease ratio of tubs : animal Move tub farther away from water and loafing areas Decrease surface area exposed | 1 tub per 50-60 head Make the animal travel to the tub A salt block on tub will reduce exposed surface area. |
Intake is lower than desired | Increase ratio of tubs : animals Mover tub closer to loafing area Change tub location to attract cattle and change grazing patterns. | 1 tub per 10-20 head Increased access Cattle will graze from water to the tub. |
Pasture is unevenly grazed | Change tub location to attract cattle and change grazing patterns. | Cattle will graze from water to the tub. |
Free choice mineral gets clumpy or blows away.
Not enough time to fill mineral feeder | Mineral tubs are weather resistant.
A 200 lb. tub will last a 40 head for 3 weeks | Less waste and less time spent filling mineral feeders. |
